Having lived off grid in a rural setting for more than 2 decades, I wanted to bring the same low impact living into the urban environment. I chose Econ Group based on their design aesthetic along with their long-standing and extensive knowledge of high-performance building. I couldn’t be happier with the results, and the entire Econ team. It was not an easy project to implement but Econ, along with their sub-contractors, did an outstanding job. I would highly recommend them as a design-builder.

Modernist Net Zero house on Vancouver’s North Shore
Considering the limitations of the existing mechanical system and building, Econ came up with an elegant total energy solution which has been working beautifully for the last two years. Besides the existing gas fireplaces, Econ was able to eliminate the use of gas for heating and domestic hot water using Mitsubishi and Sanden heat pumps. The house and coach house have a full photovoltaic (PV) system with back-up power supplied by a double Tesla Powerwall battery system and an electric vehicle charging station. Econ also provided an extensive re-work of the house exterior to fix existing design elements which really needed some attention. To top it off, an interior-design package (including the selection of furniture) and all new landscaping have brought this project to its full potential.
